Ingredients

  • 2 ripe fuyu persimmons
  • 1 banana (frozen)
  • 1 cup almond milk
  • 1/4 tsp ginger
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon
  • pinch ground cloves
  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds (for added fiber, omega-3s, and that perfect thick texture!)

Equipment

  • High-powered blender

Method

Step 1: Prepare and Blend
  1. First, wash your fuyu persimmons thoroughly. Slice off the small stem end; peeling is optional for Fuyu persimmons, as their skin is thin and edible, but you can peel them if you prefer.
  2. Add the prepared persimmons along with the frozen banana, almond milk, ginger, cinnamon, ground cloves, and the crucial 1 tablespoon of chia seeds to your high-powered blender.
  3. Secure the lid and blend for one minute, or until the mixture is completely smooth and creamy. A high-powered blender is beneficial here to ensure there are no fibrous bits from the persimmons and that the chia seeds are fully incorporated, yielding a vibrant, uniformly thick beverage.
Step 2: Garnish and Serve
  1. Optionally, for an attractive presentation, you can garnish the inside of your serving glass with a thin persimmon slice before pouring in your perfectly blended smoothie. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes

Pro Tips for Success: Always purchase persimmons slightly under ripe and let them sit for about a week to ripen and sweeten. If using Hachiya persimmons, ensure they are extremely soft and squishy; scoop out the pulp, discarding the skin. Add frozen fruit first to your blender for optimal blending. For maximum thickness, let the smoothie sit for 5-10 minutes after blending to allow chia seeds to fully activate. Blend for at least one full minute for a silky-smooth texture, adjusting spices to taste.
Customization: Adjust sweetness by using very ripe persimmons or adding maple syrup/honey for more, or lemon juice for less. To thicken, add more frozen fruit, rolled oats, or additional chia seeds, and reduce initial almond milk. To thin, add more almond milk or water gradually. This smoothie is a great base for protein powder or other supplements.
Serving & Storage: Enjoy plain, or garnish with a persimmon slice, extra cinnamon, chopped nuts, or granola. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 24-48 hours, adding a squeeze of lemon juice and filling to the top to minimize air exposure. Re-stir or re-blend briefly before serving. For longer storage, freeze individual portions for up to 1 month and thaw overnight or re-blend with fresh liquid.
