Melt the Chocolate
- In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the semi-sweet chocolate chips and coconut oil. Heat for 30 seconds, then stir thoroughly. Continue heating in 30-second intervals, stirring well after each, until the chocolate is completely melted and silky smooth (typically 1½ to 2 minutes total). Be careful not to overheat.
Slice Bananas
- Peel your bananas and slice them into uniform ½-inch thick rounds. This thickness provides stability and a satisfying bite once frozen.
Create the Salted Caramel Sandwich (The Twist)
- Take one banana slice and spread a thin layer of your chosen salted caramel on top. Gently place another banana slice on top, pressing them together lightly to form a mini sandwich. Keep the caramel layer thin to ensure a clean dip.
Dip Banana Bites
- Using a fork, carefully dip each caramel banana sandwich into the melted chocolate. Ensure it's fully coated. Lift the bite, allowing any excess chocolate to drip back into the bowl before moving to the next step. An even coating prevents cracking later.
Garnish & Arrange
- Place the chocolate-coated banana bites onto a baking tray lined with wax paper or parchment paper. If adding flaked salt or other toppings, sprinkle them over the wet chocolate now. The lined tray makes for effortless removal.
Freeze to Perfection
- Carefully transfer the baking tray to your freezer. Allow the bites to freeze for at least 2 hours, or until they are completely firm and solid. They are ready when hard to the touch and the chocolate coating is set.
Notes
Use ripe, firm bananas and gently melt chocolate. Apply a thin, even layer of salted caramel. Store frozen bites in an airtight container for 2-3 months, separating layers with parchment paper. Allow to warm briefly before eating. Nutrition information is estimated based on common ingredients and serving sizes and may vary.
