Ingredients

  • 1.5 cups baby kale
  • 1 small banana, sliced
  • 2 teaspoons honey
  • 5-6 ice cubes
  • 1 cup reduced-fat milk or nondairy milk
  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds

Equipment

  • blender

Method

Step 1: Combine Ingredients
  1. Add the 1.5 cups of baby kale, sliced banana, 2 teaspoons of honey, 5-6 ice cubes, 1 cup of milk (or nondairy milk), and 1 tablespoon of chia seeds to a blender. The blender should be about half full at this stage.
Step 2: Blend Until Combined
  1. Blend on medium-low speed, using the tamper as necessary to push the ingredients down, until everything is well combined. Listen for the ice cubes to break down, indicating that the mixture is starting to come together.
Step 3: Blend Until Smooth
  1. Increase the speed to medium-high and blend until the smoothie is very smooth. The smoothie should be a vibrant green color and free of lumps. If the smoothie is too thick, add more milk. If it's too thin, add more ice or a frozen banana.

Notes

Adjust sweetness with honey or banana. For a thicker smoothie, use frozen fruit or ice. Chia seeds thicken the smoothie as they sit.
