Ingredients

  • 4 salmon filets (6 oz each)
  • 1/2 tsp kosher salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika (or regular paprika)
  • 1/4 tsp blackening seasoning (optional)
  • 3 Tbsp butter
  • 2 tsp olive oil
  • 6 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 3 Tbsp water
  • 3 Tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 Tbsp sriracha sauce
  • 2 Tbsp lemon juice

Equipment

  • Large oven-safe skillet

Method

Step 1: Prepare the Salmon
  1. Pat your salmon filets completely dry with paper towels. This is a critical step for achieving perfectly crispy skin.
  2. Season both sides of the salmon generously with kosher salt, black pepper, smoked paprika, and blackening seasoning (if using).
  3. Set the seasoned salmon aside while you prepare the sauce.
Step 2: Make the Honey Garlic Sauce
  1. Adjust your oven rack to the middle position and preheat the broiler.
  2. Add the butter and olive oil to a large, oven-safe skillet over medium-high heat. As the butter melts, you will hear a gentle sizzle.
  3. Add the minced garlic, water, soy sauce, sriracha, honey, and lemon juice to the pan.
  4. Cook this mixture for about 30 seconds, stirring until the sauce is heated through, aromatic, slightly bubbly, and well combined.
Step 3: Cook the Salmon
  1. Carefully add the seasoned salmon to the skillet, skin side down if your filets have skin. Cook for 3 minutes, noting the edges turning opaque.
  2. While the salmon pan-sears, frequently baste it with the warm honey garlic sauce from the pan, spooning it over the top of each filet.
  3. Transfer the skillet to the preheated broiler. Broil for 5-6 minutes, basting once more with the sauce during this time.
  4. Watch closely as the sauce caramelizes and the salmon cooks through. It is done when it flakes easily with a fork and is opaque throughout (internal temperature of 145°F/63°C).
Step 4: Garnish and Serve
  1. Once cooked, remove the skillet from the oven.
  2. Garnish with fresh minced parsley, sesame seeds, or thinly sliced green onions for extra flavor and visual appeal, if desired.
  3. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes

For an extra bright finish, add a final squeeze of fresh lemon juice after broiling. If the sauce is too watery, simmer it longer to thicken. Consider doubling or tripling the sauce for serving over rice or noodles. Leftovers store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days, but the skin may lose crispiness upon reheating. Reheat gently in a skillet over low heat or in the microwave.
