Ingredients

  • 1 1/3 cups pitted cherries
  • 2 bananas sliced
  • 2 cups kale leaves
  • 2 packets frozen acai
  • 1/2 cup protein powder
  • 4 cups milk
  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds

Equipment

  • Freezer-safe container
  • High-powered blender
  • Spatula

Method

Prep and Freeze Your Fruit & Greens
  1. Combine your pitted cherries, sliced bananas, and kale leaves in a freezer-safe container with a lid. Make sure the ingredients are distributed somewhat evenly so they don't freeze into one solid block. Place the container in the freezer and let the mixture freeze overnight. This step ensures a thick, cold, and creamy smoothie without extra ice.
Blend to Perfection
  1. The next day, transfer the completely frozen fruit and kale mixture to a high-powered blender.
  2. Add the frozen acai packets (break them into smaller pieces if they're too solid), your protein powder, the milk, and 1 tablespoon of chia seeds.
  3. Secure the lid and blitz until well combined and perfectly smooth. You might need to pause and scrape down the sides of the blender with a spatula as needed. Continue blending until you achieve a signature fruity, creamy, cold, thick, and refreshing consistency.

Notes

For customization, vary your liquid (almond, oat, soy, coconut milk, or water) and sweetness (ripe banana, pitted dates, honey, maple syrup, or stevia). Feel free to add other fruits like raspberries or mango, or greens like spinach. For optimal blending, always add liquids first, then soft fresh ingredients, followed by frozen items. Start on low speed and gradually increase. If too thick, add more liquid; if too thin, add ice or more frozen fruit. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 1-2 days, or freeze in portions for up to 1 month for future enjoyment. When ready to re-blend frozen portions, add a splash of liquid.
